Packages ordered from abroad to be subject to 12-lei fee
Packages worth up to 150 euros ordered from abroad could be subject to a 12-lei fee. The measure is included in the fiscal policy for next year, approved today by the Government and set to be submitted to Parliament.
According to Finance Minister Victoria Belous, another measure included in the fiscal policy is the introduction of a special VAT regime for distance sales of imported goods worth up to 150 euros per package, together with a 12-lei fee per package, applicable through postal service providers.
“This measure eliminates the unjustified competitive advantage of cross-border e-commerce over local retailers,” Victoria Belous said.
The minister said the measure would contribute to increasing budget revenues and simplifying administrative procedures.
“We estimate that these changes will generate an increase in budget revenues of approximately 1.6 billion lei, while also simplifying administration and reducing the risk of inconsistent interpretation,” Belous stated.
The new fee is proposed amid an increase in the volume of goods ordered online from abroad. The 12-lei fee will be charged for each package, and the implementation mechanism will operate through postal service providers.
The measure is part of the package of tax amendments proposed for 2027 and will enter into force after the bill is approved by Parliament and promulgated.
