Military personnel from Moldova, Romania and United States participating in Fire Shield 2026 exercise

Military personnel from the Republic of Moldova, Romania and the United States of America are participating in Fire Shield 2026 exercise on 4-19 September. In this context, military equipment will be transported on national roads to training centers. The movements will take place at night to avoid disrupting road traffic.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the exercise involves personnel from the infantry and artillery subunits of the National Army, representatives of the General Inspectorate of Carabineers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as military personnel from the Romanian Army and the North Carolina National Guard of the United States of America.

The training sessions will take place at the training centers of military units in the Northern, Central and Southern garrisons. The exercise is led by the Republic of Moldova and aims to strengthen defense capabilities, increase operational readiness and improve coordination among the command structures of the National Army.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Chișinău, the participation of the North Carolina National Guard in Fire Shield exercise is part of a longstanding military cooperation between the United States and the Republic of Moldova. American military personnel are returning to the Republic of Moldova to train alongside Moldovan troops and the Romanian Armed Forces.

It has been organized annually since 2015.
