Lyceum from central Moldova settlement modernized with EU's and UNDP's support

Renovation works have started at the Boris Dinga Theoretical Lyceum from central Moldova Criuleni town. The school is one of ten due to be modernized with European Union’s support, thanks to a grant of ten million euros provided by the EU.

Executive Vice President of the European Commission Roxana Minzatu and Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun visited the lyceum today. The institution is one of the ten model schools modernized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), with support on behalf of the European Union, under the programme, Promoting Quality Education and Lifelong Learning Opportunities for All.

The visit included a tour of the future science laboratories, which are under   renovation, as well as a discussion with school and kindergarten principals from the district, with students and parents. A significant moment of the visit was the exhibition of STEAM projects, organized with the participation of the lyceum’s students. They presented prototypes, models and experiments, showing the results of competency-based learning and the use of new technologies.

The Boris Dinga Lyceum is one of the ten schools selected for rehabilitation under the programme, where UNDP plays a crucial role in modernizing the learning environment, digitalizing the educational processes and developing the professional skills of the teaching staff. With UNDP’s support, the physics, biology and chemistry laboratories will be modernized and endowed with modern educational equipment – including digital microscopes, interactive boards and 3D printers.

At the same time, continuous training will be provided for teaching and managerial staff, through programmes developed based on the needs of beneficiary schools. UNDP will also ensure a fleet of ten school buses, accessible to students with reduced mobility. The acquisition of transportation means will be accompanied by the implementation of a digital school fleet management system, in order to optimize routes and enhance safety.

The Promoting Quality Education and Lifelong Learning Opportunities for All programme (2024–2027), worth 10 million euros, contributes to the reform of Moldova’s educational system.
