Modernized medical services at central Moldova district hospital: new tomography, radiology rooms

The Orhei district hospital has been modernized with the inauguration of a Computed Tomography Room and a fully-equipped Radiology Room, investments that will allow rapid and accurate diagnosis of patients. The equipping of the medical unit with state-of-the-art equipment comes following support on behalf of the Health Ministry, in collaboration with international partners.

According to the Health Ministry, a high-performance CT scanner has been set at the Orhei district hospital, purchased for approximately 8.9 million lei. The equipment will be used both in the new stroke treatment center and for complex investigations in oncology or in other challenging diagnostic cases.

Besides the CT scanner, the institution has been endowed with a fixed radiology machine, valued at 3.2 million lei, funded from resources of the Council of Europe's Development Bank, as well as a C-arm mobile radiology device, essential for surgical interventions. The latter was purchased with the support of the World Health Organization and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

“The inauguration of the stroke center, which is the twelfth in number and we still have one more to open soon, took place and I am happy to soon close this list of 13 stroke centers nationally, which will allow fairly rapid, complex and specialized interventions by specialist doctors to save people's lives,” said Health Minister Ala Nemerenco.

The hospital’s director, Andrei Vîrlan, said that previously, the unit had not had a CT scanner, making it difficult to diagnose urgent cases.

“Today we have a very important event, the inauguration of the Computed Tomography Room and the equipping of the Radiology Room. We have two rooms fully endowed with quite sophisticated new equipment. All of this is due to the active involvement of the Health Ministry, government’s involvement in equipping and funding these projects. Thank you very much, Madam Minister, for all the good you do,” said Andrei Vîrlan.

The health minister specified that the institution's equipping was part of a comprehensive plan to modernize district hospitals. In the last two and a half years, more than 40 million lei has been invested in the Orhei district hospital for capital repairs and medical equipment and renovation works are currently underway in several key departments, with an additional budget of 30 million lei.

According to the institution's data, over 28,000 patients annually benefit from radiological investigations in the central Orhei district, and the diagnostic capacity will significantly increase with the commissioning of the new devices.
