Moldovan driving licences to be recognized in United Arab Emirates

Moldovan driving licences will be recognized in the United Arab Emirates. Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was approved today by the Government.

Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin said that the Memorandum will allow citizens of the Republic of Moldova who are in the United Arab Emirates to use and exchange their driving licence in a simplified manner, without taking theoretical and practical exams.

“At the same time, the treaty provides for mutual recognition of driving licences for citizens who are temporarily on the territory of the other state. For Moldovans who live and work in the United Arab Emirates, this measure means simpler, less bureaucratic procedures and greater mobility in everyday life,” the official said.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the United Arab Emirates on the mutual recognition and conversion of driving licences was drawn up in Abu Dhabi on 3 February 2026.

The Republic of Moldova currently has 11 similar agreements on the recognition of driving licences and continues to expand this network so that the rights of Moldovan citizens are respected regardless of the country in which they are located.
