Moldova’s Ambassador to Romania Mihai Mîțu presented his letters of credence to President of Romania Nicușor-Daniel Dan. The event took place during an official ceremony at the Cotroceni Palace.

On this occasion, the Ambassador conveyed greetings on behalf of President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu and reiterated appreciation for Romania’s strong support in the bilateral relations between the two states.

During the discussions, the main priorities of the new Ambassador’s mandate were addressed. These include: intensifying the bilateral political dialogue; strengthening support for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, especially with a view to the official opening of accession negotiations; boosting economic and trade relations, including through the proper implementation of all infrastructure projects; attracting Romanian investments in the Republic of Moldova; cooperation in the field of regional security; combating hybrid threats; and strengthening resilience in the face of disinformation and regional challenges.

President Nicușor Dan reaffirmed Romania’s constant and unequivocal support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing the importance of enhancing cooperation in the current context of regional challenges. He also gave assurances regarding the full support to be provided by the Romanian authorities throughout his mandate.

Mihai Mîțu was appointed by the Government as Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Romania at the end of January 2026. He is a career diplomat with more than 20 years of experience. He has worked within the central apparatus of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as in Moldova’s diplomatic missions in Sweden, the United States of America and Romania, holding positions in diplomatic protocol, consular relations and external representation.

Since 2022, Mihai Mîțu has served as Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, contributing to strengthening institutional capacities, modernizing internal management and digitalizing consular services. He also coordinated the organization of the European Political Community Summit, held in the Republic of Moldova in 2023.
