Economic cooperation and European path of Moldova discussed in Hamburg

Economic cooperation, expansion of trade relations and European path of the Republic of Moldova were discussed in Hamburg during an official visit by a delegation from Chișinău, which held meetings with local authorities, representatives of the business community and academia in Germany.

During the visit to Germany, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi met with Prime Minister of the federal state and Mayor of Hamburg Peter Tschentscher.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two officials discussed possibilities for strengthening cooperation at the regional level and identifying new opportunities for collaboration in the economic field, while also addressing the European path of the Republic of Moldova. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the status of candidate country for accession to the European Union reflects the confidence of European partners in the ability of the authorities in Chișinău to implement reforms and to honor their commitments. According to him, European integration remains a strategic objective for the stability and development of the country.

Issues related to economic cooperation were also discussed during the meeting with the Director General of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Malte Heyne, and Executive Board member Philip Koch. They examined prospects for expanding trade and investment cooperation, as well as ways to facilitate access of Moldovan companies to the German market.

At the same time, Moldova’s openness to attracting German investments and developing joint projects between the business communities of the Republic of Moldova and Hamburg was underlined, including through the strengthening of platforms for bilateral economic dialogue.

The visit's agenda also included a trip to the College of Europe in Hamburg. During the discussions, the role of academic dialogue and the exchange of expertise was highlighted, as well as the importance of preparing a new generation of professionals in the spirit of European policies and values.

Popșoi is paying a working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany on 3 - 5 March, at the invitation of Germany’s Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, Johan Wandephul.
