Moldovans working legally in Slovakia to get pensions and other social benefits

Citizens of the Republic of Moldova who have officially worked in the Slovak Republic will be able to benefit from pensions and other social benefits from the state. In this regard, an Administrative Arrangement for the application of the Agreement in the social security between the two states has been ratified in Bratislava.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National House of Social Insurance, as well as experts from the relevant Slovak authorities.

The administrative arrangement is a secondary instrument aimed at implementing the provisions of the Agreement, which provides a framework of social security guarantees for workers from the Republic of Moldova who work or have worked or reside in the territory of one or both of the contracting states.

Additionally, the document aims to facilitate inter-institutional collaboration for the implementation of pension rights and other social benefits for citizens working or who have worked in the two states.

Thus, the state will ensure the right to a pension for persons who have paid social contributions, even if they have not worked for at least 15 years in the Republic of Moldova but meet this condition by combining the years worked in the two countries. The Republic of Moldova and the Slovak Republic will calculate and pay the pension only for the insurance periods achieved on their own territory, applying the principle of proportionality.

Pension payments will be made directly to the beneficiary's bank account, opened at a financial institution in the Republic of Moldova or Slovakia, and each state will calculate and pay the pension share corresponding to the years worked on its own territory according to its own rules. The beneficiary must ensure the maintenance of an active account and provide correct bank data, including the life certificate, in case of benefit transfer.

To date, the Republic of Moldova has signed social security agreements with 20 states, 18 of which have entered into force and are applicable. These are social security agreements signed between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, Bulgaria, Portugal, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Austria, Estonia, the Czech Republic, the Kingdom of Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Germany, Turkey, Belarus, Italy, Greece, Spain, and Latvia.
