Two signatories of Declaration of Independence awarded Order of Republic

Members of the 12th Legislative Parliament, signatories of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova, Vasile Șoimaru and Ion Tăbîică have been awarded Order of the Republic. The decree, signed by President Maia Sandu was published in the Official Journal.

According to the document, the awards were offered as a sign of deep gratitude for their contribution to the proclamation of the country's independence and for their dedication to promoting national values.

'As a token of deep gratitude for their contribution to the proclamation of the Republic of Moldova as a sovereign, independent, and democratic state, as well as for their dedication to promoting national values, Vasile Șoimaru and Ion Tăbîică are awarded the Order of the Republic,' the decree states.

The decree signed by the head of state came into effect on 10 October.

Vasile Șoimaru was a member of the First Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, which signed the country's Declaration of Independence. Subsequently, he held a mandate as a deputy in the 1998–2001 legislature. His most recent term was from July 23, 2021, to July 23, 2025, elected on the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) list.

Ion Tăbîică was elected as a deputy in the First Legislature (1990–1994), being part of the first Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and one of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence on August 27, 1991. Both personalities significantly contributed to the process of proclaiming the independence of the Republic of Moldova and to strengthening parliamentary institutions in the early years of the state's existence.
