Center for river information services to operate in Moldova
A Center for river information services will be established in Moldova. The regulation on river information services on inland waterways, which provides for the establishment of the Center for river information services at the Giurgiulesti Port Authority, was approved at a today’s cabinet meeting.
According to the Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry (MIDR), the center will have the task of monitoring inland waterway traffic and improving the safety and efficiency of navigation on the Dniester and Prut rivers.
“It will use modern technologies, such as the automatic identification and information transmission system about ships and electronic inland navigation maps, providing accurate and real-time data on river traffic. Thus, the Naval Agency will have at its disposal a modern system for monitoring river traffic and for quick response in emergency situations, as well as precise data necessary for maintaining and improving navigable routes,” MIDR said.
This measure contributes to creating the premises for the digitization of the river navigation of Moldova and to adopting practices in line with European standards in the field of naval transport.
