Work on Chisinau–Straseni–Calarasi water main is progressing, with more than 47.1 kilometers of the main pipeline already built. The project envisages the construction of an approximately 51-kilometer main line, intended to improve access to drinking water for tens of thousands of residents in central Moldova.

According to the Central Regional Development Agency (ADR Centru), the pipeline is made of ductile iron, with diameters of 400, 500 and 600 millimeters.

"At present, the works are being carried out simultaneously by seven teams on several sections of the route. In Vatra, the manholes on Feroviarilor Street have been completed, while in Straseni workers are finishing the last kilometer of section B, where the 500 mm diameter pipeline is being installed. Completion of this intervention will allow for the finalization of the main pipeline installation on sections A and B. Works are also underway in Sireti and Selistea Noua, where the last pipeline segments are being installed," the cited source explains.

Another key facility is the Tuzara Main Pumping Station, where completion works and preparations for equipment installation are ongoing. The station will ensure the necessary pressure and flow for transporting water along the entire length of the main pipeline.

In Calarasi, at reservoir R4, interior finishing works are being carried out, followed by the arrangement of the area around the facility.

"Along the entire route, manholes, anchor blocks and reservoirs have been built and completed, while in the Chisinau section testing of the already constructed networks continues. This stage is necessary to verify the system’s functionality before it is put into operation. The investment will help increase the security of water supply, improve public services and ensure better living conditions for tens of thousands of people in the Central region," ADR Centru notes.

The project "Improvement of Water Infrastructure in Central Moldova" is being implemented by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, through the Central Regional Development Agency, with the support of the Federal Government of Germany via KfW Development Bank.
