Energocom fully purchased gas needed for upcoming cold season
Energocom has so far contracted approximately 76% of the total volume of natural gas required to cover consumption in the 2026–2027 gas year (1 October 2026 – 30 September 2027). In this process, the volume of natural gas needed to cover the projected consumption for the next season, October 2026 – March 2027, has been fully purchased, in the amount of 3,832,693 MWh.
In total, for the procurement procedure that began in July, 24 bidding rounds were held, with the participation of 11 companies from Romania, Austria, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Malta, Germany, and Greece. Of these, 23 rounds were successfully completed. Representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Public Property Agency, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Intelligence and Security Service, and civil society were invited to and took part in all tenders.
Energocom emphasized that the final gas price is not set at the time of signing the contract but is calculated later, based on a formula indexed to the TTF Front Month index, published by Argus Media, for the following delivery month. Thus, the price is determined on the basis of a European reference index that is public and verifiable, and outside the influence of the contractual parties.
In parallel, the company will carry out the necessary purchases to meet the natural gas storage obligation by 1 November 2026. The storage obligation represents 15% of the total forecast volume for a gas year and for Energocom amounts to about 134.5 million m³ of natural gas. Part of this volume has already been secured, and the gas will be stored in neighboring countries that have storage facilities.
