DOC // Moldova secures €150 million in funding for Livada Moldovei II project
The Republic of Moldova is accessing €150 million in financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the implementation of Livada Moldovei II project. The promulgation decree and the Law on the ratification of the Financing Contract between the Republic of Moldova and the EIB were published today in the Official Journal.
The contract continues the partnership launched in 2016, with the implementation of the first stage of Livada Moldovei project – a credit line through which the EIB supported investments in the horticultural sector via participating commercial banks.
The project extends this cooperation until 2031 and covers a wider range of agricultural activities, while also contributing to the European integration path of the Republic of Moldova. The new project aims to increase the competitiveness of the agricultural sector, align it with European Union standards, reduce poverty in rural areas, strengthen food security and support the EU accession process.
The largest share of the financing – approximately €135 million – will be granted through financial intermediaries to micro-enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises operating in areas such as horticulture, viticulture, livestock farming and aquaculture, processing of agricultural products, irrigation systems and the digitalization of the sector. Another approximately €15 million will be directed to public investments in research and education infrastructure, food safety and public services dedicated to the agricultural sector.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the €150 million loan, granted on concessional terms, will generate total investments of over €300 million, including through the contribution of final beneficiaries. Among the main expected effects are the modernization of agri-food infrastructure, the creation of jobs in rural areas, the increase of high value-added exports and the reduction of dependence on food imports.
The Financing Contract between the Republic of Moldova and the European Investment Bank for the implementation of Livada Moldovei II project was signed in Chișinău on 29 June 2026. It is included in the list of investment projects under the Reform and Growth Mechanism for the Republic of Moldova, which will be implemented through the Neighbourhood Investment Platform.
The law enters into force upon the publication in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova.
