Moldovan service members from the 24th KFOR contingent of the National Army have begun the mandate in Kosovo, as part of the international KFOR peacekeeping mission, for the next six months.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the official transfer of authority ceremony took place at the multinational base Camp Vilaggio Italia in the city of Peć, where the KFOR-24 contingent took over duties from the KFOR-23 troops. The event was held in the area of responsibility of the Regional Command West.

In the presence of Colonel Lorenzo Mangia, representative of the Regional Command West, Major Ion Bădărău, commander of KFOR-23, handed over the state flag and responsibilities of the position to Major Ilie Ciobanu, who will lead the Moldovan contingent for the duration of the mandate.

The KFOR-24 contingent consists of 41 professional soldiers, including infantry, engineers, and a staff officer, who will carry out specific missions to maintain security and stability in the area of responsibility.

This year, the National Army marks 12 years of uninterrupted participation in the KFOR international peacekeeping operation in Kosovo, contributing to international efforts to stabilize the region.
