Moldovan PM asks authorities, budgetary institutions to implement strict control of expenditures

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu has requested that authorities and budget-funded institutions implement strict control of expenditures and review their procurement plans for 2026. The measure is introduced amid a tense international economic context and increasing pressure on energy and fuel prices.

“In a tense international economic context, with growing pressures on energy and fuel prices, the state must be the first to set an example of financial discipline and responsibility toward public money. I have requested that all authorities and budgetary institutions implement strict control of expenditures and review their procurement plans for 2026,” the prime minister informed.

The official stated that procurements which are not of critical necessity would be cut by at least 10 per cent, while expenditures for official transport and the number of transport units would be decreased by at least 20 per cent.

“Public resources must be concentrated where they are truly needed: in infrastructure, in the work of the state’s essential services and in maintaining economic stability,” the PM emphasized.

On March 4, the government declared a state of alert in the energy sector for a period of 60 days, in connection with the external situation. According to the authorities, the measure is preventive in nature and aims to protect domestic consumption and maintain the stability of the energy system.
