Moldovan deputy PM has meetings with senior European Union officials in Brussels

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri paid a working visit to Brussels on March 12-23, 2026.

During the visit, the official had meetings with more senior representatives of European institutions, including at the European External Action Service (EEAS) with the Secretary-General of the institution, Belén Martínez Carbonell; the Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Olof Skoog; Chair of the EU Political and Security Committee Lene Mandel Vansild; Head of the Georgia, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus Unit within the EEAS, Deren Derya; as well as with the Director-General of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) of the European Commission Gert Jan Koopman; Head of Cabinet of the President of the European Council, Pedro Lourtie; Member of Cabinet of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Calin Ungur; and with Director of the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments of the European Commission Peter Wagner.

At the discussions, Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Chiveri presented recent developments regarding the Transnistrian settlement process, including the dynamics of the dialogue at the level of political representatives and sectoral working groups, as well as the main topics of interest for citizens on both banks of the Dniester River. Chiveri presented the efforts made by the Moldovan authorities to identify sustainable solutions to existing problems and to promote effective sectoral policies for the reintegration of the country.

At the same time, the Moldovan official highlighted the important contribution of the European Union in supporting the Transnistrian settlement process and in implementing development projects aimed at reducing disparities between the two banks of Dniester, as well as in strengthening Moldova’s energy resilience for the benefit of citizens on both banks of the river.

The deputy PM also emphasized the close cooperation between Moldova and the European Union, in the context of the country’s European path and the commitments undertaken by the national authorities. He underlined the need for closer coordination in the field of reintegration policies and for the extended implementation of European standards all over Moldova.
