The National Blood Transfusion Center and 15 hospitals in the country have today received advanced equipment that ensures blood transfusion. The donation is provided by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova), in the context of aligning Moldova’s commitments to European standards regarding the quality and safety of blood.
The event was attended by Minister of Health Emil Ceban, UNFPA Moldova representative Karina Nersesyan, director of the National Blood Transfusion Center Silvia Roșca, directors of beneficiary district hospitals, representatives of development partners, and medical teams involved in blood transfusion services.
Ceban emphasized that for 30 years, UNFPA Moldova has significantly contributed to the development of the national health system, aiming to improve conditions in medical institutions, starting with primary care and continuing with hospital care.
“Today, our partners are again contributing to strengthening a strategic field. Alongside us are colleagues from regional institutions that will receive the equipment, ensuring that the population across the territory has access to this essential service. The offered donation represents an important contribution to improving the quality and safety of the transfusion process, both in the national center coordinating this process and in district hospitals. Transfusion safety remains a priority for the healthcare system. Every stage of this process, from donation to the patient, must adhere to clear quality standards, and modern equipment is essential for reducing risks. I highly appreciate the constant partnership with UNFPA Moldova, which has shown us that European integration is not achieved in Brussels, but in the country's clinics. The Ministry of Health continues to support investments in infrastructure, equipment, and, of course, in human resources, aiming to align the national blood transfusion system with European standards,” stated Emil Ceban.
Karina Nersesyan appreciated the good collaboration with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova, which has significantly contributed to the modernization and improvement of conditions in medical institutions across the country.
“The authorities aim to improve conditions in medical institutions in every locality, and we want blood to reach every one of these when needed. The donated equipment will strengthen the entire health system and will facilitate the daily work of medical staff. We greatly thank them for their relentless efforts to save lives,” said Karina Nersesyan.
Additionally, Silvia Roșca pointed out that this donation is important not only for the institution’s activity but for the entire health system, as it means safer conditions for both donors and patients in difficulty.
“The equipment received today directly contributes to improving the quality of the blood transfusion service by optimizing the way blood components are collected, processed, tested, stored, and used. A properly equipped and well-organized blood service is essential for ensuring balance in safe and non-invasive blood transfusion processes. These standards are extremely important since blood plays a decisive role in critical situations, including medical emergencies, where quick access can make the difference between life and death. This donation confirms a joint commitment to quality, safety, and responsibility towards those in need,” emphasized Silvia Roșca.
The event takes place in the context of the alignment of Moldova’s commitments to European standards regarding the quality and safety of blood, set out in the national program for transfusion safety and the country's self-sufficiency with blood products for 2023-2027.
