Moldova and Ukraine coordinate infrastructure and transport development plans

Moldova and Ukraine are strengthening their joint plans for infrastructure and transport development, in line with both countries' goals to enhance regional connectivity and expand strategic logistic routes, topics discussed during a meeting held in Chisinau between Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea and Ukrainian Ambassador Paun Rohovei.

According to MIDR, the discussions focused on bilateral cooperation in the field of infrastructure and transport, with an emphasis on the implementation of joint projects under the European Commission's Solidarity Lanes initiative. This initiative aims to support the export of Ukrainian agricultural products to international markets and the development of cross-border logistics.

In this context, the parties addressed topics concerning the modernization of road and rail infrastructure, bridge construction, road repair, and increasing rail transport capacity. The planned investments are considered essential for facilitating regional trade flows and supporting Ukraine's recovery and reconstruction process.

Ukrainian Ambassador Paun Rohovei highlighted the importance of the high-speed highway project Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau-Odessa, as well as the need to continue work on the joint project for the construction of the bridge over the Dniester River, in the area of Cosăuți-Yampil localities.

Bolea emphasized that given the Russian Federation's attacks on Ukraine's port infrastructure on the Danube and Black Sea, expanding the logistic route capacity through Moldova to Romania's ports is a strategic priority. The official noted that developing joint infrastructure goes beyond the economic dimension, representing a long-term investment in the region's stability, security, and prosperity, within a united Europe.
