Over 700 driving licenses to be cancelled after corruption scheme uncovered
More than 700 driving licenses are set to be cancelled after authorities uncovered a corruption scheme used to cheat on theoretical exams required for obtaining them. Director of the Public Services Agency (ASP) Mircea Eșanu made the statement today.
“Next week, we will cancel over 700 driving licenses due to a corruption scheme identified in Bălți and Edineț, which allowed cheating on theoretical exams,” stated Mircea Eșanu on a TV8 talk show.
According to the official, the candidates involved allegedly used special gadgets to obtain the correct answers to the questions proposed during the theoretical exam for the driving license.
“They had special gadgets, cameras, microphones, through which they were guided on what and how to press, what the answers were to the theoretical exam. The law and the methodology approved by the Ministry of Education permit us, if we identify such frauds, to revoke the driving rights and license of those we are certain cheated on the theoretical exam,” stated the ASP head.
Mircea Eșanu noted that the scheme was documented from February to the current September period.
The ASP Director added that this year, about 160 internal service investigations have been initiated concerning the issuance of driving licenses.
“This year, I believe we set a record, with 160-170 internal service investigations, only on the matter of licenses. There are about 80 penalties with reprimands, severe reprimands, seven people dismissed, and another three who left voluntarily, including, by the way, some visited by colleagues from the CNA. Two of those they visited have already left the system,” emphasized Mircea Eșanu.
