VIDEO // Ministry of Justice creates working group to strengthen fight against corruption

The Ministry of Justice has recently established a task force composed of representatives from relevant institutions and field experts, which will assess the efficiency of the legal and institutional framework in combating corruption. The aim is to identify concrete solutions to strengthen the state's capacity to prevent and sanction this phenomenon.

Minister of Justice Vladislav Cojuhari emphasized the importance of this initiative and explained the motivation behind creating the group.

"In recent years, the justice system has undergone several changes. They all had a single goal – to make the fight against corruption more effective and to strengthen state institutions. Currently, we are witnessing significant progress in combating the scourge of corruption. State institutions have managed to withstand unprecedented external interferences, the number of cases reaching the courts has doubled, and for the first time, we have convictions of high-level public officials. Our goal is for the institutions to function, and we, in turn, will support and encourage them in this endeavor," stated the official.

According to the minister, the task force will analyze not only existing legislation and practices but also international experience, with the aim of proposing adjustments and concrete solutions.

"We are carefully reviewing both the recommendations of the Venice Commission and those formulated by the ministry's team. Subsequently, we will come up with a set of necessary measures for amending the normative framework. All these boil down to the fundamental objective – the efficiency of institutions in the fight against the phenomenon of corruption," noted Vladislav Cojuhari.

The task force will continue its activity until the finalization of recommendations and proposals for amending the legal and institutional framework.
