Prime Minister after drone explosion in Crocmaz: Fact that we are outside war zone does not protect us
The fact that the Republic of Moldova is located outside the war zone does not protect it from consequences. The statement was made by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan after fragments of a combat drone were found near the village of Crocmaz, Ștefan Vodă district. The prime minister provided new details about this incident.
Vasile Tofan noted that the drone hit a tree and that a nearby house was damaged. The prime minister thanked the emergency services for the speed with which they acted, noting that there were no casualties as a result of the incident.
“A drone hit a tree. It is good that it hit a tree and not a house. At the same time, we had damage just 8 centimeters away from a home. The fact that we are outside the war zone, unfortunately, does not protect us. A fire broke out, there are no victims. The fire was extinguished very quickly. I thank our police officers and the emergency services, who reacted quickly and contained the fire. We all feel this war. We know who the aggressor is in this case. I condemn this war. It affects us as well. All I want is for it to end as soon as possible,” the prime minister said.
Asked whether the ambassador would be summoned, Tofan stated that the authorities will take the necessary measures, without giving further details, notes moldova1.md. A powerful explosion occurred this afternoon in the locality of Crocmaz, Ștefan Vodă district, after which a vegetation fire broke out. At the scene, fragments, preliminarily identified as parts of a combat drone, were found. The police determined that no person was harmed as a result of the object’s fall and the ensuing fire.
The prime minister also commented on the massive attack on Odesa on the same day, calling it an act of barbarism.
“This was the most powerful attack on Odesa. Odesa has always been the victim of savage attacks, but now the attack is even stronger. They strike without any restraint at civilian targets, at homes. It is pure barbarism,” Vasile Tofan concluded.
Odesa region was targeted during the night from Saturday to Sunday by a massive combined attack with drones and missiles launched by the Russian army.
At least two people were killed and dozens were injured in the Russian attacks on several regions of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced. The most affected were Odesa, Kharkiv and Pavlohrad. The Ukrainian leader reiterated his call to intensify pressure on Russia, impose new sanctions and strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.
In the morning, border authorities announced that traffic on the bridge near Maiaki–Udobnoe locality was temporarily suspended, in the context of the triggering of an air-raid alert on Ukrainian territory.
