DOC // Published in Official Journal - Moldova to create Information System for Monitoring Medicine Stocks

The Republic of Moldova will create an Information System for Monitoring Medicine Stocks, which will be intended for the recording, monitoring, and centralized reporting of human-use medicine stocks throughout the entire territory of the country. A Government decision to this effect was published today in the Official Journal.

The new tool will allow the supervision of medicine availability across the entire supply chain: domestic manufacturers, importers, wholesale distributors of medicines, pharmacies, as well as public and private medical and sanitary institutions.

Thus, through the establishment of the System, the authorities will have a centralized tool for current stock monitoring, issuing preventive alerts, generating analytical reports, and supporting intervention decisions in case of shortage risks.

The new System is necessary given that, at present, in the Republic of Moldova there is no automated mechanism for collecting and tracking data on medicine stocks at national level. As a result, the monitoring of medicine availability is carried out in a fragmented and predominantly reactive manner, based on notifications from the market (pharmacies, patients, doctors) or on ad-hoc actions by the authorities.

By creating the new Information System, the Republic of Moldova aligns itself with European practices and strengthens its capacity to prevent medicine shortages, while at the same time preparing for future obligations arising from its status as an EU candidate country.

This decision enters into force on the date of its publication in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova.
