Drivers required to use low-beam headlights during the day too as of November 1

Drivers are required to use their low-beam headlights during the day as well starting from November 1. The measure is provided for in the Road Traffic Regulations.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, Oxana Toderita, press officer of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), emphasized that the measure was meant to reduce the risk of road accidents caused by unstable weather, which during this period is accompanied by rain, fog and other weather phenomena that significantly reduce visibility in traffic, as well as by the fact that it gets dark earlier.

“The measure is applied annually during the cold season. Drivers who travel without their headlights on will receive a warning from patrol officers. Law enforcement officials also recommend that drivers adjust their speed to road and weather conditions and maintain a greater distance between vehicles in traffic,” Oxana Toderita noted.

Drivers will also be required to use winter tires when the road surface is covered with ice, black ice or snow.

The requirement to drive with headlights on during the day stays in effect until March 31, 2027.
