Salary bonuses for about 4,000 academic staff, researchers increase in Moldova in 2025
The salary bonuses for approximately 4,000 academic and research staff were increased in 2025. Thus, the monthly bonus for the title of habilitated doctor was raised from 1,100 to 4,500 lei, and for the title of doctor of sciences from 600 to 4,000 lei.
As a result of the increase in monthly bonuses, beneficiaries’ incomes rose by more than 20 per cent, reaching up to 21,400 lei for a university professor and 19,960 lei for an associate professor, including the 10 per cent performance bonus.
According to the Education and Research Ministry, the bonuses are granted proportionally to the time worked, including in cases of holding multiple positions.
The measure is meant to support efforts to motivate university staff and to strengthen the fields of research and innovation, helping to maintain the competitiveness and quality of higher education in Moldova.
At the same time, the initiative eliminates discrepancies between the level of remuneration in general and vocational technical education and the one of the teaching staff in higher education.
In 2024, researchers’ salaries in Moldova increased by 21.5 per cent.
