School buses equipped with GPS devices and can be monitored through digital platform

All school buses have been equipped with GPS devices and can be monitored through a digital platform, accessible via both a web interface and dedicated mobile applications. The devices were acquired with the support of the European Union, within a project implemented by UNDP and UNICEF.

“This modern solution enables real-time monitoring of school buses, control of fuel consumption, automation of travel sheets, and optimization of routes. The system directly contributes to enhancing student safety and more efficient use of public resources,” says Ana Moraru, project manager at UNDP Moldova.

Sergiu Coceaș, principal consultant at MEC, mentioned that the initiative is part of an effort to increase student safety and modernize educational infrastructure. “The GPS devices were installed during August-September, and training of those responsible for transport will help us use this resource as efficiently as possible,” said Sergiu Coceaș.

So far, 500 GPS devices have been purchased for school buses under the management of district/municipal education, youth, and sports departments and educational institutions. Future transportation means for students will also be equipped with such devices.

Previously, with the support of the project "Promoting quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all," implemented by UNDP and UNICEF and funded by the EU, 10 school buses were distributed to educational institutions in the country. The total investment value exceeds 635,000 euros.

Each minibus has 14 seats, including two adapted for students using wheelchairs, equipped with an access ramp. The vehicles feature stability control systems, monitoring video cameras, air conditioning, automatic steps, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers.

The buses provide daily transportation for about 15,000 students from rural areas to schools and educational activities.
