Today is the International Museum Day, and on this occasion, museum institutions from all over Moldova are announcing special weekend programmes dedicated to the public. Thus, on May 23, the traditional European Night of Museums will be organized, a cultural event held annually in more European states. Museums will keep their doors open until late at night and will prepare for visitors exhibitions, concerts, interactive workshops and artistic programmes with free entrance.

In Chisinau, the most important museum institutions have announced special activities dedicated to audiences of all ages.

At the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History, the events will include fairs of folk craftsmen, creative workshops for children and adults, musical performances and interactive activities dedicated to cultural and natural heritage. The organizers announce that the programme will take place under the motto, Museums that Unite a Divided World.

At the same time, the National History Museum of Moldova will organize topic-related exhibitions, night visits and special cultural activities dedicated to the International Museum Day. The institution has announced its participation in this year’s edition of the European Night of Museums, with free access for the public.

At the National Art Museum of Moldova, the programme will include piano, violin, accordion, trumpet and saxophone recitals, performed by students, teachers and artists invited from artistic education institutions and cultural organizations from the country. The museum will be open to visitors free of charge until close to midnight.

At the same time, the Chisinau City History Museum – Water Tower will join the event with exhibitions and activities dedicated to the history of the Chisinau city. The European Night of Museums is organized annually in Moldova alongside other European states and aims to promote cultural heritage and bring the public closer to museum institutions through interactive activities and free access.

The International Museum Day is marked each year on May 18 and was established in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The purpose of this day is to highlight the role of museums in preserving cultural heritage, developing education and promoting dialogue between cultures.
