Moldovan president expresses condolences after traffic accident in Hungary

President Maia Sandu has expressed condolences to the families of those who died in the road accident in Hungary. She emphasized that “the competent institutions of our country are in constant contact with the Hungarian authorities and are making every effort to provide the necessary assistance.”

“I learned with great sadness about the accident that occurred in Hungary today, involving a minibus registered in Moldova, in which seven people lost their lives and another two were seriously injured. My thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy. I extend my condolences to the bereaved families and wish the injured a swift recovery,” Maia Sandu said.

Two vehicles with license plates from Moldova were involved in two accidents that occurred nearby the city of Győr, Hungary, today morning

Thus, at about 4:30 a.m., a truck crashed into a work vehicle at kilometer 114 of the M1 highway, near Győr. As a result of the impact, the vehicle caught fire and the driver died on the spot.

Shortly afterwards, at around 5:10 a.m., at kilometer 113 of the highway, a minibus collided with a stationary truck that had stopped due to traffic restrictions caused by the first accident. There were nine people in the minibus; seven of them died at the scene.
