New details about accident in Hungary: Moldova's Foreign Affairs Ministry says Moldovan, Romanian passports found at the scene

The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) has provided updates about the road accident that occurred near the city of Győr, Hungary, involving a minibus registered in Moldova. According to the authorities, both Moldovan and Romanian passports were found at the scene of the accident; however, the identity and citizenship of the victims have not yet been officially confirmed.

According to the information communicated by Hungarian authorities to the Embassy of Moldova in Budapest, nine people were in the minibus. Seven of them died, while the other two were transported in serious condition to the hospital in Győr.

The MAE specifies that the procedures for identifying the victims are ongoing, and their citizenship is to be established by the competent authorities.

The Embassy of Moldova in Hungary is maintaining constant contact with the responsible institutions in the neighboring state and is monitoring the evolution of the situation.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry announced that it would provide further information.

 

According to the Hungarian press, two vehicles with license plates from Moldova were involved in two accidents with tragic consequences that occurred on the M1 highway nearby the city of Győr, Hungary. At around 4:30 a.m., a truck crashed into a road maintenance machine at kilometer 114 of the M1 highway, near Győr. Following the impact, the vehicle caught fire and the driver died on the spot. Shortly afterwards, around 5:10 a.m., at kilometer 113 of the highway, a minibus crashed into a stationary truck that had stopped due to traffic restrictions caused by the first accident. There were nine people in the minibus: seven died at the scene.
