PHOTO // Faster interventions, safer medical services in Moldova; UN Population Fund donates 1,800 blood pressure monitors to emergency medical teams

The National Center for Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Care (CNAMUP) has received a new donation from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of emergency medical teams and contributing to improving the quality of medical services provided to the population.

The donated batch includes 1,800 mechanical blood pressure monitors meant for pre-hospital emergency medical teams across Moldova. The equipment will facilitate prompt and efficient monitoring of patients in emergency situations, including obstetric and neonatal cases. The total value of the donation is 20,600 US dollars.

This donation is part of UNFPA’s ongoing support to the national pre-hospital emergency medical care system and contributes to strengthening CNAMUP’s institutional capacities to provide prompt, safe and life‑saving medical services.

“The support is provided in the context of the humanitarian situation triggered by the war in Ukraine. Since February 2022, Moldova has proved solidarity and responsibility towards refugees, and development partners, including UNFPA, have supported the efforts of national authorities and the health system to respond to the increased needs of the population,” CNAMUP emphasized.

The current donation complements a broad assistance programme provided by UNFPA, which previously included the provision of specialized ambulances for transporting newborns in critical condition, pregnant women and patients in the postpartum period, as well as the supply of essential medical equipment and the organization of training programmes for emergency medical staff.
