Better roads and modern localities for 880,000 citizens

Government launches 133 new projects under Europe is Close Program: about 900,000 citizens will benefit from infrastructure investments

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) Vladimir Bolea announced today the launch of 133 new projects to be funded by Europe is Close Program. Contracts will be signed in the coming days, and local authorities will be able to start public procurement procedures so that the work can begin as soon as the weather conditions allow.

With this new package, the total number of approved projects in the program reaches 353, with investments set to improve infrastructure across the country. Over 880,000 citizens will benefit from safer, more modern local roads and access routes, adapted to the current needs of communities.

Europe is Close – concrete investments for the development of localities

During the conference, Vladimir Bolea emphasized that the program represents a strategic tool of the government to reduce the gaps between rural and urban areas and bring the Republic of Moldova closer to European living standards. The initiative targets three priority areas: expansion of water and sewage networks, rehabilitation of local and regional roads, and energy efficiency of public buildings, including schools, hospitals, and community institutions.

'Our goal is for every citizen, regardless of the area they live in, to feel the concrete benefits of the European path. Europe means good roads, drinking water, modern conditions in schools and hospitals. It's not just a slogan, but a real change in everyday life', he said.

He mentioned that the program includes simplified funding mechanisms to allow town halls to access funds quickly, along with close cooperation with local authorities to identify the most pressing needs of communities.

Significant progress in European Courtyard Program

The official also informed about the developments in the European Courtyard Program, which modernizes spaces between blocks. Currently, 56 courtyards are under execution or procurement procedures, and the results are already visible in several localities where residential areas are becoming safer, more functional, and more friendly for residents.

For the additional list of 32 courtyards, public procurements will be launched this week. All submitted projects have been included in the Single Program Document, representing a firm commitment by the government that each courtyard will be modernized.

Meanwhile, MIDR is preparing sketches for another 150 courtyards, so that work on new projects can begin in February 2026.

Turning opportunities into visible results

Vladimir Bolea reiterated that these programs reflect the institutional capacity of the Republic of Moldova to implement complex projects and leverage European support through concrete investments.

'We are at a crucial moment where we need to turn external opportunities into visible results. Through these programs, we bring Europe to every locality, building durable infrastructure that connects Moldovan villages to the development and prosperity network of the continent,' he emphasized.

Monitored implementation and imminent work

The projects will be rigorously monitored to ensure transparency, correct use of funds, and quality of work done. The first sites are set to open in the immediate period, once contracts are signed and procurements are finalized.
