Economic dialogue Chisinau-Beijing: investment priorities in agriculture and energy projects

Trade relations between the Republic of Moldova and China and their development prospects were discussed on 10 December at a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu and new Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Moldova Dong Zhihua.

The ambassador emphasized that China's new strategic development plan, approved in October by Beijing authorities, opens new opportunities for deepening trade relations with multiple countries, including the Republic of Moldova. China aims to increase imports of agricultural products, including wine, cherries and sunflower seed flour.

Chinese investors are particularly interested in the agricultural sector, agricultural product processing, infrastructure projects, and the energy field. According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, 81 companies with Chinese capital operate in the territory of the Republic of Moldova, and China ranks 51st among the main foreign investors by the value of capital invested.

In a press conference organized on 5 December, on the occasion of the start of her mandate, Dong Zhihua stated that she aims to develop relations between Beijing and Chisinau, observing potential in both the economic and cultural fields. In this context, the ambassador invited the Republic of Moldova to join the 'express train' of development.
