Energy compensations to be maintained in next cold season

The Government will continue to provide energy compensations in the next cold season, taking into account the volatility of energy resource prices in the context of the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. Minister of Finance Andrian Gavriliță made the statement today.

“In the current situation and with the volatility of energy resource prices, I do not think that this year we will remove energy compensations for energy sources. These will be revised, they will be included in a possible budget rectification, and we will make sure, first of all, that citizens can afford these bills,” said Andrian Gavriliță after today’s Government meeting.

At the same time, the minister pointed out that the authorities’ vision is to gradually move from current compensations to investments in energy efficiency.

For four consecutive years, the Government has granted energy compensations to vulnerable households through the Aid at the Meter Program. The support is provided in the form of a monetary payment, which is paid monthly. For this purpose, from the state budget, 1.5 billion lei were allocated in 2024, and 2.34 billion lei in 2025.

In the previous cold season, around 622,000 vulnerable families benefited from energy compensations. The financial aid ranged between 500 and 1,000 lei and covered, on average, up to 40% of the bill cost.
