Moldovan products promoted on Chinese market
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi had a meeting today with Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Zhang Zhu, in Beijing. The officials discussed opportunities to develop Moldovan-Chinese relations in the field of agriculture and agri-food trade, with a focus on implementing initiatives to modernize agriculture and facilitate trade exchanges.
Popșoi emphasized that agriculture is an important sector for the economy of the Republic of Moldova. He highlighted the quality of Moldovan agri-food products, due to the fertility of the soil and the country’s agricultural tradition, expressing interest in expanding their access to the Chinese market.
“In Beijing, I had a meeting with Minister Zhang Zhu. We discussed expanding exports of Moldovan products to the Chinese market, including fruits, honey, oils, and grains. At the same time, our country is interested in strengthening the presence of its wines on the Chinese market. In this context, I proposed examining the possibility of reducing the customs duty applied to their import. China is the main Asian market for our wine products. We also discussed the opportunities offered by Chinese online commerce platforms for promoting Moldovan products and consolidating their presence on the Chinese market,” said Popșoi.
Special emphasis was also placed on advancing technical procedures and finalizing the phytosanitary protocols required for the export of new categories of domestic products. For his part, the Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Zhang Zhu, underlined that the People’s Republic of China has one of the most extensive digital trade networks in the world. In this context, the Chinese official invited Moldovan producers and companies to open pavilions and stores under the “Made in Moldova” brand on Chinese e-commerce platforms.
Minister Zhang Zhu also invited an official delegation of the Republic of Moldova, made up of representatives of the agricultural and wine sectors, to participate in the 47th World Vine and Wine Congress, which will take place in October 2026 in the city of Ningxia, China.
Popșoi is paying an official visit to the People’s Republic of China on May 21–25 this year, at the invitation of his counterpart, Wang Yi. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral dialogue and promote economic, trade, investment, cultural, educational, and tourism cooperation between the two states.
The last visit of a Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs to the People’s Republic of China took place in 2018.
