Moldova expands diplomatic presence in United Kingdom: first Honorary Consulate opened in Manchester
Moldova has expanded its diplomatic presence in the United Kingdom by inaugurating the country’s first Honorary Consulate in the Great Britain. The new representation was opened in Manchester, along with the appointment of Dina Railean as honorary consul.
The inauguration event brought together representatives of British local and regional authorities, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, members of the consular corps, the academic and business communities, as well as representatives of the Moldovan Diaspora.
Ambassador of Moldova to the United Kingdom Ruslan Bolbocean highlighted the importance of opening this diplomatic representation in a strategic region, such as the North West of England. The official emphasized the economic, cultural and academic role of the Manchester city, as well as the presence of a large community of Moldovan citizens in the region.
Welcome messages were delivered by Vice Lord Lieutenant Sharman Birtles, Her Majesty’s representative in the region, by Lydia Stone, representative of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, as well as by Nicoleta Teodorovici, Consul General of Romania and President of the Consular Association in Manchester.
In their speeches, the officials noted the strengthening of Moldovan-British relations and the progress made by Moldova in recent years. They also stressed the role of the new consulate in developing economic, cultural and social cooperation between the two states.
Dina Railean thanked the partners for their support and reaffirmed her commitment to promoting the image of Moldova and strengthening ties between institutions, communities and the business environment.
According to the competent authorities, the Honorary Consulate will also contribute to the organization of itinerant consulates, carried out by the Embassy of Moldova in London.
