Heatwave temperatures in Moldova
The National Roads Administration (AND) has announced traffic restrictions for heavy goods vehicles with a maximum authorized total mass of over 12 tons. The measure is being applied in the context of the yellow, orange and red heatwave warnings, valid from June 28 to July 1.
According to the joint Order of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during the mentioned period the movement of these vehicles is restricted between 10:00 and 20:00 on all national public roads.
“The following are exempt from these measures: passenger transport, transport of perishable goods, medical equipment, emergency interventions, transport of live animals, fuel distribution, as well as other categories of transport provided for in the aforementioned order,” AND announced.
The measure aims to protect the road infrastructure against damage caused by extreme temperatures.
“Under heatwave conditions, asphalt concrete road surfaces lose their load-bearing capacity, and the movement of heavy vehicles can cause permanent deformations such as ruts, subsidence and other damage that affects traffic safety and generates significant costs for road repairs,” AND stressed.
Meteorologists have issued yellow, orange and red heatwave warnings, valid from June 28 to July 1. During this interval, temperatures will reach up to +41 degrees Celsius. At the same time, minimum temperatures will not drop below 20°C, a characteristic specific to tropical nights.
