The president of Taraclia district, the head of the Construction Commission, and a public procurement specialist are targeted in a case involving bid rigging and abuse of office. Anti-corruption officers, together with prosecutors, are conducting searches today in a criminal case initiated in this regard.
According to the National Anti-Corruption Center, the individuals are suspected of having rigged public procurement procedures and of favoring the awarding of contracts to a company secretly managed by the president of the Construction Commission through intermediaries.
During the investigation, several episodes were documented in which the suspects allegedly negotiated prices for certain projects and drew up cost estimates with fictitiously increased volumes, in the interest of companies affiliated with the head of the Construction Commission.
The small-value contracts mainly concerned repair works at educational institutions, and the estimated damage caused to the public budget for 2025 alone amounts to approximately 3 million lei.
Currently, searches are being carried out in the offices, homes, and cars of the suspected persons. They will be investigated at liberty, while the criminal investigation continues in order to establish all the circumstances of the case, identify all persons involved, and collect the necessary evidence.
