LIVE // European Council President, European Commission President, Moldovan head of state make press statements following EU - Moldova Summit
European Council President António Costa, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President Maia Sandu are delivering press statements following the Moldova – European Union Summit, held in Brussels today.
The Moldova – European Union Summit is a high-level dialogue format established by both sides and reflects the partnership between Moldova and the EU, as well as the firm commitment to the country’s accession to the EU.
This year’s meeting takes place one week after the official opening of accession negotiations on the first cluster of chapters, “Fundamental values”, marking a new stage on the country’s European path.
During the event, the leaders discussed the next steps in the negotiations and Moldova’s reform agenda. The summit’s agenda also includes topics related to the regional situation, strengthening cooperation in the fields of security and defense, energy, as well as EU support for the economic development of Moldova.
At the end of the summit, the leaders will adopt a joint declaration.
