Premiere on electricity market in Moldova: first transaction conducted on Day-Ahead Market
On 10 December 2025, for the first time in our country's history, a transaction took place on the electricity market - Day-Ahead Market (DAM), managed by the Electricity Market Operator of Moldova (EMOM).
Thus, Energocom made its first transaction on this platform on 10 December 2025, symbolically purchasing 1 MWh.
The test aims to verify the operability and functionality of the new market, as well as assess how it can support the diversification and transparency of electricity procurement mechanisms.
“This operation marks a new beginning for the national energy sector. The Day-Ahead Market represents an essential step in developing a competitive, sustainable system aligned with European standards. Its operation allows transparent price formation based on supply and demand, offering increased opportunities for participants to optimize and efficiently manage their energy portfolio,” Energocom announced.
According to the company, the launch of the DAM contributes to strengthening the country's energy security, stimulates investment in production and infrastructure, and paves the way for more advanced integration of the Republic of Moldova into European energy markets.
The day-ahead market was launched in the Republic of Moldova on 10 December, and the intraday market will be launched on 17 December.
After the launch of the day-ahead and intraday markets in the Republic of Moldova, EMOM will intensify joint activities within a regional project aimed at facilitating Moldova's and Ukraine's accession to EU market coupling.
In early September, ANRE introduced adjustments for the operation of short-term markets – the Day-Ahead Market and the Intraday Market. They will allow transactions as close as possible to the time of delivery, reducing imbalances and associated costs.
