VIDEO // Chișinău to have modern ring road with European Union support

Chișinău will have a modern ring road with support from the European Union. It will be about 90 km long, have four traffic lanes, and feature grade-separated intersections. The government is advancing in the feasibility study for the new ring road, which is estimated to be completed by mid-2026.

The road will connect the suburbs of the capital, reducing traffic jams, pollution, and increasing road safety.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea said that over the past four years, authorities have managed to attract new financial resources to develop this road infrastructure.

“Today we are at Chișinău municipality’s ring road, an extremely important road infrastructure. In the last four years, we have attracted financial resources to develop this road structure. We have decided to invest in this segment of the national road to decongest the traffic coming into Chișinău and reduce the city’s pollution,” he said.

According to the official, the new ring road, which will be designed with four lanes, with a total length of 90 km, will ensure rapid movement and connect all of Chișinău’s suburbs.

Currently, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, through the National Road Administration is updating the technical documentation for the modernization of sectors 2 and 3 of the existing beltway, which will be expanded to four lanes with grade-separated intersections.

“The government will continue to invest in our roads and road infrastructure, thus providing citizens with more opportunities for growth and development,” said Vladimir Bolea.

In mid-July, traffic was opened on the bridge over the Bâc river and on the overpass over the railway on the M1 road. These are two essential infrastructure objectives on the national route M1, which connects the border with Romania (Leușeni), Chișinău municipality, Dubasari region, and Ukraine border. Drivers traveling through the area stated that after the modernization of this important sector, traffic flows more easily, and traffic jams are no longer an issue. “There will be good roads, and we will have a bright future,” stated a driver.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced earlier that 3.2 billion lei will be invested this year for the rehabilitation, reconstruction, and maintenance of roads and bridges in Moldova. The money will be used for the modernization of over 600 kilometers of local and regional roads.
