The National Bank of Moldova (BNM) will introduce into circulation, starting from December 1, 2025, the commemorative coin “Queen Marie of Romania – 150 years since birth”, issued within the numismatic series “Personalities”.
The new piece is dedicated to Queen Marie of Romania (1875–1938), a prominent figure in the history of the Romanian space, known for her decisive role in promoting the national ideal and supporting the process of Great Union. According to NBM, Queen Marie's personality stood out through her intense involvement in political, social, and cultural life, as well as through her support for those in need and the promotion of Romanian traditions.
The coin is made of silver, has a nominal value of 100 lei, and a mintage of 750 units.
“The launch of this commemorative coin is a gesture by which we reaffirm the continuity of the values that anchor us today in the European space: dignity, freedom, and the power to build together”, declared Anca Dragu, emphasizing that Queen Marie remains a symbol of courage and a vision that united people in decisive moments.
The coins can be purchased by submitting online applications, as well as through licensed banks in the Republic of Moldova. Financial institutions are free to set the sale price, provided that it does not exceed the level established by the central bank by more than three percent.
BNM periodically issues commemorative coins dedicated to personalities and historical events, which are highly sought after both by collectors and the public interested in cultural and historical heritage. The coins aim to harness the memory of personalities and defining moments for the national space.
