Moldova - leader among EU expansion candidate states
Moldova has achieved the most significant progress in the areas of the Customs Union, Foreign and Security Policy, and Energy, where our country has reached a moderate to good level of preparation. Deputy Secretary-General of the Government Rodica Crudu made the statement at the EU Enlargement Report 2025: Progress and Future Priorities for Moldova conference.
Rodica Crudu mentioned that in the clusters of natural resources, agriculture, and cohesion, three out of five chapters have reached a moderate level of preparation — a substantial increase from the initial level recorded in 2023.
'The report confirms the highest leap achieved by Moldova since obtaining candidate status, demonstrating our determination to rapidly advance towards the European Union,' stated the government representative during the document presentation.
According to her, Moldova's level of preparation has quadrupled compared to 2023, when the European Commission began evaluating the country's performance.
'In 19 negotiation chapters and two subchapters, the level of preparation has significantly increased, and in 12 chapters, Moldova has reached a moderate to good level,' mentioned Rodica Crudu.
According to the report, Moldova surpasses states with longer experience in the accession process, such as Ukraine, Albania, and Montenegro, obtaining an average score of 2.38 points for the level of preparation.
'To close the negotiations, we need to reach the advanced level of five points — we are practically halfway there,' emphasized the Deputy Secretary-General.
