DOC // New Electricity Law published in Official Journal

The new law concerning electricity was published in the Official Journal today. It significantly modernizes the national legal framework in accordance with the community acquis and introduces a series of regulations that will stimulate competition, launch the electricity market and integrate it with the European Union's.

At the same time, the new provisions will promote the installation of energy storage systems, electrification of the economy and facilitate consumer participation in the energy market.

Thus, the law aims to ensure accessible and transparent electricity prices and costs for consumers, a high degree of security of electricity supply, and a smooth transition to a sustainable energy system with reduced carbon dioxide emissions.

The document's provisions target the expansion of the list of activities subject to licensing. This includes energy storage activities, energy trading, and aggregation activities. Also, the new law will establish the general principles of operation for electricity markets, including wholesale markets.

Other provisions of the legislative initiative refer to extending the responsibilities of the National Agency for Energy Regulation in managing electricity crises. Thus, ANRE will monitor how license holders comply with the decisions of the Commission for Emergency Situations. If discrepancies are identified, sanctions will be applied.

The document also aims to promote new business models in the electricity sector by developing infrastructure for charging electric vehicles. Thus, carrying out this activity will not require obtaining a license to supply electricity.

The Ministry of Energy previously stated that the new law contributes to strengthening the country's energy security, ensuring the necessary premises for reliable, sustainable, and competitively priced supply for the benefit of citizens, the business environment, and the national economy as a whole.
