Period of submission of acts for registration of electoral contenders at parliamentary elections ends on August 19

Tuesday, August 19, marked the end of period of submission of documents for the registration of candidates in the parliamentary elections due on September 28, 2025.

According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), during the period from July 20 to August 19, 50 applications on registration in the electoral race have been submitted. This includes: 25 applications from political parties; four requests from electoral blocs; three applications from independent candidates who created an initiative group and 18 requests from individuals aspiring to the status of independent candidates who have announced they would collect signatures individually.

Following the examination of the applications, the CEC has registered, so far, 12 electoral competitors, including: seven political parties, three electoral blocs and two independent candidates. Meanwhile, the Commission rejected one application from a political party, as the list of proposed individuals is below the allowable number and incorrectly positioned, as well as an application to register an electoral bloc made up of four political entities that are successors of a political party declared unconstitutional. Subsequently, all these parties asked for individual registration.

At this point, there are still 18 applications under review submitted by 13 political parties and five candidates aspiring to independent status. The period of examination for each application is seven days. Thus, the applications submitted today will be reviewed by the Commission at a meeting till August 26 inclusively.

The electoral campaign for the September 28 parliamentary elections will start on August 29, this year.
