Government gives positive notification to Moldova's accession to Convention concerning International Carriage by Rail
Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers, at a today’s meeting, approved a draft law on the amendment of the law on Moldova’s accession to the Convention concerning International Carriage by Rail (COTIF). Through the amendment made, decision-makers will ensure the completion of the process of the country’s joining COTIF, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Thus, at a request by the COTIF Secretariat, Moldova will enforce the Uniform Rules concerning the Contract for International Carriage of Goods by Rail on the entire railway infrastructure, with the overall length of 1,086 km.
Following Moldova’s accession to COTIF, the country will benefit from:
increase in the volume of transport of goods in transit through two border crossing points (Ungheni-Iasi and Giurgiulesti-Iasi);
enhancement of the capacity of competition on the transit routes of Moldova’s Railway enterprise;
increase in the revenues from the tariff of transited goods.
