Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu took part in the opening of the ministerial debates of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York. This year, the event is titled: Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions.

In his speech, Alexei Buzu stressed that in an international context marked by multiple crises, uncertainty, and growing pressure on institutions and economies, the 2030 Agenda remains an essential framework for joint action, resilience, and international solidarity.

“For the Republic of Moldova, sustainable development is not only a public policy objective, but a strategic national choice. It guides our efforts to respond to current challenges and, at the same time, to build a more prosperous, inclusive, and resilient future for our citizens,” the Secretary General of the Government said.

The official spoke about the challenges that our country has faced in recent years, including the consequences of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the energy crisis. Despite these difficulties, the Republic of Moldova has continued to implement reforms, strengthen democratic institutions, and invest in education, health, social protection, and public services.

The head of the State Chancellery also highlighted that aligning the 2030 Agenda with the process of accession to the European Union is a central element of the Republic of Moldova’s efforts: “We believe that the two agendas mutually reinforce each other. Both pursue the same vision: building a democratic, resilient, and prosperous society in which every person can develop and no one is left behind.”

The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development is the main United Nations platform for monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This year’s edition is being held from 7–15 July under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council.

During the Forum, in-depth reviews are being conducted of the goals related to clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, industry, innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities, as well as partnerships for the goals.

The Republic of Moldova is among the 36 states that will present, in 2026, their voluntary national review on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The report of our country will be presented by Buzu on 15 July in New York.
