The strengthening of cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union in our country’s accession process was discussed by Acting Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu and Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission. The meeting took place in the context of the Republic of Moldova–European Union Intergovernmental Conference on the opening of accession negotiations under Cluster 6 External relations.

The officials discussed the progress made by the Republic of Moldova in the accession process, the Government’s reform agenda and the priorities set for the coming period. Particular emphasis was placed on implementing the recommendations of the European Commission and on the reforms needed to align the national economy and institutions with European Union standards.

Osmochescu thanked the EU for its constant support and underlined the importance of close cooperation in order to accelerate internal transformations and prepare the Republic of Moldova for full integration into the European area.

“The European path of the Republic of Moldova requires a joint effort to modernise institutions, strengthen the economy and consistently implement reforms. Support and cooperation with European partners are essential for the results of this process to be felt by citizens,” Osmochescu said.

During the discussions, the role of the Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova was highlighted, as it helps accelerate reforms and mobilise investments. Recently, the Government submitted to the European Commission the semi-annual report on the implementation of the Reform Agenda, which reflects the progress made in fulfilling the agreed measures. Investment opportunities created through cooperation with the European Union were also addressed.

The EU–Moldova Investment Conference confirmed European partners’ confidence in the economic potential of the Republic of Moldova, by announcing investment partnerships, financing instruments and projects worth over 1 billion euros, aimed at developing infrastructure, energy, digitalisation, innovation and economic competitiveness.

Both sides reconfirmed the joint commitment of the Republic of Moldova and the European Union to continue the accession process, implement the necessary reforms and build a modern, competitive and resilient European state.
