The Presidency of the Republic of Moldova

On 13 July, President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu will participate in a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, at the invitation of President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron. This is the first time that the Republic of Moldova takes part in a meeting of the Coalition of Willing.

The Coalition of Willing is a political and diplomatic coordination format, co-chaired by France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, which brings together 37 states, most of them European. The purpose of the Coalition is to support Ukraine and ensure a just and lasting peace after the conclusion of a ceasefire, in order to prevent a new aggression. The discussions in Paris will focus on strengthening support for Ukraine.

The participation of the Republic of Moldova in the Coalition of Willing is a natural continuation of the support offered to Ukraine. Our country’s participation is fully compatible with the neutrality enshrined in the Constitution: the coalition is a flexible cooperation format, and other neutral European states are also part of it. Each participating state decides on its own the form and extent of its contribution, in accordance with its constitutional framework.

Since the beginning of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova has supported its neighboring state: it has provided refuge to Ukrainians who fled the war, ensured transit corridors for Ukrainian exports, offered humanitarian and energy support, and contributed to training Ukrainian sappers in the field of humanitarian demining. With a shared border of 1,222 km, the Republic of Moldova is a reliable security partner for Ukraine and for the rest of Europe. The security of Ukraine and the security of the Republic of Moldova are closely interconnected: a just and lasting peace in Ukraine will mean stability for Moldova and for the entire continent.
