Moldovan acting PM commemorates victims of first wave of Stalinist deportations
Chisinau, 13 June /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi, along with President Maia Sandu today participated in an event on the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the first wave of Stalinist deportations from 13 June 1941. The officials laid flowers at the Monument to the Deportees and Political Prisoners on the Square of the Railway Station in the memory of the deported victims, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The acting PM recalled how, on 12-13 June 1941, thrifty people, intellectuals, people active in the society were deported. Ciocoi stressed that these tragic events must be included in the syllabi of the schools, so that the history remains alive and has no chances to be repeated:
„More than 100,000 Moldovans in repeated waves were taken out of homes and carried to the GULAGS of the Bolsheviks. This page of our history must remain permanently alive. I call on the historians: I think that the nominal list of all Moldovans who became victims of the NKVD and the terror of the Bolsheviks is absent on this socle. I think that our duty and the one of our descendants is to carry this task through, to seek in archives, to open the still closed archives and so that we know exactly the family names and the first names of those who were deported and why. Another action which I deem as necessary can be painful for us – to learn also who denounced them.’’
In the context, Aureliu Ciocoi called on the society ‘’to have courage to put up resistance to any administrations which fall into autocracy and de defend with dignity the freedom and democracy, which are absolutely necessary elements for a free and prosperous future of our country.’’
The acting prime minister came up with a recommendation to imprint the names of all victims of Stalinist deportations on the concerned monument till 27 August 2021, when Moldova will mark the 30th anniversary of the Independence.
