Alexandru Machidon appointed as Interim Prosecutor General
The deputy chief prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), Alexandru Machidon, was appointed today by the members of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) for the position of interim prosecutor general. His candidacy will be proposed to the head of state, Maia Sandu.
For the vacant position, after the former prosecutor general Ion Munteanu took the oath as a judge at the Supreme Court of Justice, the deputy head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, Octavian Iachimovschi, and the deputy head of PCCOCS, Alexandru Machidon, competed.
Machidon's candidacy was supported by 10 out of the 11 CSP members. Only Aliona Nesterov, who previously held the position of deputy interim prosecutor general, did not vote for his appointment.
Since June 10, 2024, Alexandru Machidon has been serving as interim deputy head of the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases. In May 2023, he served as interim head of the Orhei District Prosecutor's Office, and in 2017 he worked as deputy head of the Criuleni District Prosecutor's Office.
