
Chisinau, May 23 /MOLDPRES/- Parliament of the Republic of Moldova turned 32 today.
On the occasion of the anniversary, Speaker Igor Grosu said that the duty of parliamentarians is to improve people's lives. "Deputies are elected by the people to represent them. People trusted us to improve their lives. They want to live at home as they see it being lived in European countries", he said.
General Secretary of the Parliament Tamara Gheorghița said that for all 32 years, the employees of the Legislative Secretariat have been with the deputies and citizens, through the activity carried out. "Efforts to modernize the civil service, especially in the context of granting the status of a candidate country for EU accession, are important for an efficient, transparent and professional institution. New successes to the parliamentary institution, congratulations to all current and former employees!", her message reads.
In all the years of activity to date, the Parliament adopted 13,576 legislative acts and met in 1914 plenary sessions.
On May 23, 1991, according to the decision of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic of the 12th legislature, set upM after the first democratic elections, the Union Republic of SSR became the Republic of Moldova, and the Supreme Soviet became the first Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
